Vegin’ Out adds Green, Vegan Catering to its Menu of Services

Los Angeles, Calif., August 11, 2008 – Vegin’ Out, L.A.’s best vegan weekly meal delivery service, announced today it has launched a catering business to provide large and small events with healthy, delicious, eco-friendly vegan cuisine created by nutritional chef and co-owner Tim Boissy.
Like the freshly prepared meals Vegin’ Out delivers to its clients, the new catering menu is based on fresh vegetables, whole grains, leafy greens, and plant-based sources of protein. Each dish is free of meat, dairy, cholesterol and trans fats, and includes locally grown and organic foods as often as possible. Typically about 75 percent of the company’s ingredients are certified organic.
Vegin’ Out can handle intimate events like dinner parties or backyard BBQs, to larger business or social events, and recently provided a spread for Opportunity Green’s networking event for young, ‘green-minded’ professionals held at the Architecture & Design Museum in Los Angeles. Opportunity Green cofounder Karen Solomon appreciated the small carbon footprint of Vegin’ Out’s seitan jambalaya, lentil salad, and cookies.
“Clearly we wanted our event to be as eco-friendly as possible, so having Vegin’ Out provide the food was a great opportunity to show our network that vegan food can be elegant and satisfying,” said Solomon.
The average meat eater generates 1.5 more tons of CO2 every year than a person who doesn't consume animal products, and livestock farming produces greenhouse gases methane and nitrous oxide in abundance. A meat-based diet requires more than 4,000 gallons of water per day, compared to 300 gallons for a plant-based diet.
Dan Boissy, who co-owns Vegin’ Out with his brother Tim, looks forward to expanding Vegin’ Out’s business by catering special events. “Our business model of providing weekly meals to our clients is an excellent platform to build a catering division, because we’re comfortable with cooking on a large scale,” said Boissy. “Many of our delivery clients have told us they wish we could do their parties or business functions, so extending our capabilities into catering makes sense for them and for us.”
In addition to catering events and working with vendors who focus on green services, Vegin’ Out can also help clients book live music and entertainment thanks to Dan, a professional musician for nearly a decade, and his contacts among L.A.’s best bands and musicians.
